Vehicles and internal combustion engines (ICE) tests

Current tasks of the modern automotive industry are bringing environmental indicators to the set standards, improving the economic and power qualities of the vehicle.

Testing engines and components is a necessary part of refinement and preparing vehicles for production, as well as monitoring compliance with environmental, economic and power indicators.

Research and tests to determine emissions of harmful substances with exhaust gases, emissions of visible pollutants

When testing engines on a bench to determine emissions of harmful substances with exhaust gases and the emission of visible pollutants, the following is carried out:

  • measurement of emissions of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxide, particulate matter in the ESC cycle

  • opacity measurement by ELR cycle

  • measurement of emissions of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxide, particulate matter in the ETC cycle

  • measurement of visible emissions

Research and tests to determine engine power indicators and fuel flow

When assessing engine power indicators, the laboratory tests automobile engines (gasoline, diesel, gas-diesel, gas) intended for installation on a vehicle on a motor test bench.

The following is determined during the tests:

  • maximum net power

  • maximum net torque

  • fuel consumption

Starting performance tests at low temperatures

When testing automobile engines intended for installation on vehicles of categories M, N, in a climatic chamber, the following are determined:

  • reliable engine start temperature

  • number of attempts for a reliable start

  • reliable start attempt time

Vehicle tests with regard to environmental and operational safety of heating systems

Tests of combustion heaters intended for installation in vehicles with regard to:

  • emissions of harmful substances with the exhaust gases of the heater

  • emissions of visible pollutants

  • functional safety

  • tightness of the primary circuit of the heat exchanger

  • temperature, surfaces of combustion heaters and air at the outlet of the heaters

Vehicle tests with regard to the installation of the ICE and checking the functioning of the on-board diagnostic systems. Determination of emissions of visible pollutants

Vehicle testing is carried out on the roads or on a dynamometrical bench.

Determination of the resistance of intake and exhaust systems. The tests determine:

  • maximum backpressure in the exhaust system at 100% load and rated engine speed

  • maximum rarefaction in the intake system at 100% load and rated engine speed

Parameters and specification of the on-board diagnostic systems (OBD):

  • design and visual control (completeness, arrangement of elements, compliance with the standards of diagnostic interfaces, indicators, pointers)

  • OBD reaction to the simulated malfunction

  • exhaust of visible pollutants

Safety tests for electrically driven vehicles

The following is assessed during the tests:

  • protection against direct contact with parts under voltage

  • protection against electric shock due to indirect contact

  • insulation resistance of high voltage busbars

  • insulation resistance of the connection system for charging

REESS:

  • overload protection of REESS

  • functional safety of electrically driven vehicles

Testing of vehicles powered by compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas with regard to the installation of special equipment elements

The following is assessed during the tests:

  • proper and safe operation of special equipment elements

  • presence of all necessary special equipment elements

  • location and security of fastening of special equipment elements

  • tightness of the installed set of gas-cylinder equipment
