Research and tests of vehicles with regard to the environmental safety

Reducing emissions from an ever-increasing car fleet is vital to maintaining public health and a clean environment.

The fuel efficiency indicator of the vehicles is significant for reducing the cost of their operation and saving of the planet resources.

Assessing the above vehicle properties is necessary and mandatory when calibrating, refining the vehicles and engines, acquiring type approvals for the vehicles for their production and control during their operation.

The following is carried out during the bench testing:

  • control of the average level of harmful substances emissions with exhaust gases after starting a cold engine

  • control of carbon monoxide emissions in idling mode

  • crankcase emissions control

  • control of hydrocarbon emissions as a result of evaporation from the fuel system of vehicles equipped with gasoline-powered engines

  • monitoring the average level of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons in exhaust emissions after starting a cold engine at low ambient temperatures

  • carrying out durability tests to check the durability of pollution control devices

  • checking the functioning of on-board diagnostic systems

  • confirmation of the reliability and control of the functionality of on-board diagnostic (OBD) systems

  • measurements of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions

  • fuel flow measurement and/or measurement of energy consumption and range of electric vehicles

Research and tests of the vehicles in road conditions

The following is carried out during the tests in road conditions:

  • control of emissions of harmful substances with exhaust gases during tests in real road conditions

  • control of the harmful substances content in the air of the driver's cabin and vehicle’s passenger compartment

  • assessment/control of the fuel efficiency properties of the vehicles

  • determination of the resistance to the forward motion of the vehicles driven along the road
